KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - High winds Wednesday are complicating travels for semi-truck drivers across Kansas.

I-70 from the border of Colorado to Salina is closed due to high winds creating low visibility and blizzard conditions in the area.

A trucking supervisor getting vehicles ed at a Kansas Highway Patrol inspection point West of Kansas City told KCTV5 his crews are stuck at that border, and won’t be moving anytime soon.

Other truck drivers at the inspection site pulled over to check conditions but some said they were still thinking about taking off as conditions moved in.

One of those truckers, Timothy Pinnell said winds can be dangerous for them even if they’re at a standstill. He said even regular drivers will feel this wind so it’s something he’s keeping an eye on.

“A lot of people say you’ve got to slow down which helps to a point but if the wind is strong enough it doesn’t matter. You could be parked on the side of the road and get blown over. We’re hauling a 53-foot billboard down the road basically so any wind coming through its gonna hit it, it’s going to move around,” he said.

Pinnell said drivers can prevent running into issues on the roadways by keeping their distance from large trucks, especially when coming out from under a bridge or over.
