Gardeners to load up on native flora during Blue Springs plant sale
BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. (KCTV) - Metro area gardeners and plant enthusiasts have been invited to Blue Springs to get their fill of native flora in their own backyard.
The Missouri Department of Conservation says that as native plants do well in home gardens and benefit birds and pollinators, are gearing up to host a native plant sale in Blue Springs. The sale is expected to take place at the Burr Oak Woods Nature Center between 12:30 and 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 29.
According to the Department of Conservation, vendors from Missouri Wildflowers Nursery and City Roots Nursery and Landscape are set to offer plants while supplies last. This is also a chance for visitors to get tips about gardening with native plants from vendors.
Conservationists noted that wildflowers have various blooming periods and can provide color in spring, summer and fall. Birds benefit because the plants host insects important to feeding babies in the nesting season. Pollinators benefit as they evolved using native plants as food sources.
MDC indicated that the plant sale is open to all ages and registration is not required. For more information about the sale, click HERE.
Burr Oak Nature Center is located at 1401 NW Park Rd. in Blue Springs.
