LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. (KCTV) - The Lee’s Summit Police Department (LSPD) is teaming up with the Arts and Culture Division and is looking to commission a professional artist, or artist team, for an art piece.

The art piece is a K-9 Team Memorial for public view, which will be placed at the new Police South Substation main entrance. The entry deadline is March 24, and the budget for the project is $45,000. This covers design fees, fabrication, delivery, installation and more.

The piece is allowed to include illumination and visitors can touch and interact with the art piece. It is meant to act as a K-9 memorial installation for the South Substation development. It should maintain views of the K-9 teams and the Police Department.

Concept requirements include the following:

  • “In honor of the K-9s who have served LSPD”
  • “In service and sacrifice, they stand with us”
  • Space allotted, 6 feet by 8 feet
    • Does not have to fill the space, but would like a sculptural work
  • Breed: Belgian Malinois
  • 10 K-9s would be honored with an expectation of more in the future
