BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. (KCTV) - People living in and driving through Blue Springs may soon have their choice of new brew.

of the city’s planning commission recommended the city council approve plans for three new coffee shops across the city during a meeting Monday night.

The full city council still needs to approve the plans for 7 Brew and Hyper Energy Bar.

7 Brew

7 Brew hopes to open a building with a drive-thru along Route 7.

The company selected a building next to Wendy’s near NW Zaun Street. It will also share part of a parking lot with Hobby Lobby and Office Depot, if approved.

Plans also call for 7 Brew to provide six parking spaces. The business expects most business to utilize the drive-thru.

Hyper Energy Bar

Developers involved with Hyper Energy Bar told the planning commission that the proposed Blue Springs location is one of five it hopes to open in the metro this year.

If the plans are approved, Hyper Energy Bar plans to open in the Adams Dairy Landing Shopping Center near Dollar Tree.

The location will have a drive-thru, a walkup window, three parking spaces for vehicles and two bicycle parking spaces.

Hyper Energy Bar is designed to have two drive-thru lanes. There will be one on each side of the building.

The location will sell energized drinks, coffee, and light snacks.

Other Hyper Energy Bar locations are anticipated to open in Olathe, Overland Park, and Belton later this year.

Tim Hortons

Fans of the Canada coffee chain have been waiting months for an update on when Tim Hortons plans to open north of Interstate 70.

It turns out plans for the business' sign is delaying the opening.

of the planning commission denied a request from the company to use the pole sign already on the property. The sign is from Backyard Burgers, the former owner of the property.

The architect working with the coffee chain said the company needs to be able to change the sign to let customers know where Tim Hortons is located.

“Tim Hortons is a bakery and coffee shop from Canada. This is the first one of three in the Midwest. The next closest is somewhere in Texas,” Roy Browne, architect for Tim Hortons, said.

of the city planning committee determined the sign in question does not meet all requirements of the city’s sign code.

Browne is allowed to appeal the decision.
