Highway chase crosses state lines after driver seen asleep at the wheel
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A bizarre police pursuit stretching over at least 50 miles involved multiple law enforcement agencies across state lines.
Around 6:30 a.m., on Tuesday, March 25, the Lafayette County Missouri Sheriff’s Office attempted to pull over a driver seen asleep at the wheel.
After the driver awoke, police said he sped away, suspected to be under the influence of drugs.
The Lafayette County Sheriff ended his pursuit after losing sight of the vehicle.
Soon after, Missouri Highway Patrol Troopers found the wanted vehicle on Interstate 70 (I-70) near Blue Springs. When they attempted to pull him over there, he sped away a second time.
Officers from multiple agencies deployed tire deflation devices, flattening the driver’s tires to slow him down.
The driver continued westbound on I-70 until exit 4, where his enger jumped out and ran. That enger was quickly apprehended.
The driver continued down I-70, crossing into Kansas, where the Kansas Highway Patrol took over and performed a tactical vehicle intervention, a law enforcement tactic used to stop a fleeing vehicle by forcing it to spin and lose control, ultimately ending a dangerous pursuit.
The driver was finally taken into custody at I-70 near Mill Street in Kansas City, Kansas.

No other vehicles were damaged, and no one was hurt.
