WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - A child’s complaint of a “monster” under the bed led to a child endangerment arrest in Barton County.

On Monday at around 10:30 p.m., Barton County sheriff’s deputies were called to a disturbance in the 2000 block of Patton Road, just outside of Great Bend, where a woman was babysitting children.

As the children were being put to bed, one complained there was a “monster” under the bed. When the woman attempted to show child there was nothing under the bed, she came face to face with a man who was hiding there. An altercation ensued and one child was knocked over during the struggle. The suspect fled before deputies arrived.

The victim identified the suspect as Martin Villalobos Jr., who once lived at the home but was under a protection from abuse order to stay away from the property. Deputies searched the area for the suspect but did not find him.

The next morning, Villalobos was seen near the home, at which point he attempted to flee from authorities. He was captured after a short pursuit.

Villalobos, 27, was arrested and booked into the Barton County Jail for aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary, aggravated battery, child endangerment, felony obstruction of a law enforcement officer and violation of a protection of abuse order.

Villalobos is being held in lieu of a $500,000 bond.
