KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - There’s so much happening at Kauffman Stadium preparing for Royals opening day. But All-Star Seth Lugo took a break from the mound Wednesday morning to brighten some spirits at Ronald McDonald House.

Ronald McDonald House (RMH) is a nonprofit that houses and cares for families while their child is hospitalized nearby.

Lugo spent the morning greeting families and hearing their stories at one of three Ronald McDonald Houses in downtown Kansas City that sits adjacent to Children’s Mercy.

Lugo, his wife, and kids made breakfast before playing wiffleball with the RMH families. Lugo shared RMH holds a special place in the Lugo family’s heart due to his son James falling ill with a heart condition when he was young. The Lugos stayed at the Ronald McDonald House in Memphis while James underwent surgery. James is now a happy, healthy 5-year-old paying it forward for others in their time of great need.

Lugo says his whole family understands the importance of Ronald McDonald House as a community resource.

“We had to figure everything out on the fly; it was pretty difficult, and we weren’t sure what Ronald McDonald house was. Now we love to give back any way we can,” he said.
