You may be woken up by rumbles of thunder overnight as a cluster of storms drifts east out of central Kansas. These may or may not hold together well for Kansas City, but a low risk for severe weather will be in place until before sunrise Friday. Our next weather system comes in this weekend, and we have First Warns on both Saturday and Sunday for rain and storms at times. Some may be severe.

TONIGHT: Spotty storms, even a few strong ones, could move through. Warm with low temperatures only in the upper 50s (near the normal high for this time of year).

FRIDAY: Warm and windy, with highs in the mid to upper 70s. We will enjoy lots of sunshine, but you will notice the southwest gusts. They will be up to 30 mph in the morning, and they could be as high as 40 mph for the afternoon and early evening.

Forecasted wind gusts for Friday in Kansas City and the surrounding area.

SATURDAY: Much of the day will be cloudy but dry. A few spotty showers are possible, but these look few and far between. Plans outside generally look to be in good shape with mid-70s and south breezes at 10-20 mph. We see rain and storm chances increase by evening and overnight, where a line of storms looks to move through. We have been upgraded to a Level 2/5 severe risk for Saturday evening and Saturday night, even into before sunrise Sunday, where severe winds and hail could form in some of the strongest storms. Currently, the most likely time for storms will be midnight Saturday through 6 am Sunday.

SUNDAY: Not a washout of a day, but we will likely be in and out of rain. It will be about 25 degrees cooler than Saturday, with highs only in the low 50s and breezy north winds.

Sunday morning severe weather is possible.

NEXT WEEK: Cool and dry to start, but warmer by mid-week with another rain and storm chance by Tuesday night and Wednesday.
