ARCHIE, Mo. (KCTV) - Medicare recipients have become the latest group of people targeted by scammers, according to the Cass County Health Department.

The scammers are acting like the health department and calling individuals in towns like Archie to try to get medicare recipients to divulge information like medicare numbers, social security numbers and even banking information. The press release from the health department said the scammers may be using pressure tactics on callers to manipulate an individual.

Archie resident Bryan Kusgen gave his thoughts on the newest scam during an interview at Mama’s Kitchen.

“We can’t handshake anymore. There’s no handshakes. This is, this is the time you really have to check people out know what their credentials are,” Kusgen said. “If people would work just as hard on a job as they are scamming, this world would be a little different world.”

The Cass County Health Department is reminding residents to never share personal information and to the source by hanging up on the scammer and calling the health department at 816-380-8429.

“The Cass County Health Department wants to emphasize that it will never call to request Medicare numbers without an appointment with a patient scheduled,” the Dealth department said in a statement sent to KCTV5.

Additionally, they are asking residents to notify the Federal Trade Commission if they have been the target of a medicare scam with someone impersonating a health department official by calling 1-877-382-4357 or going to www.ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
