Kansas City couple dead in apparent murder-suicide

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The Kansas City Police Department has released additional details surrounding the death of a woman.

Officers were first dispatched to the 9000 block of Blue Ridge Boulevard around 7 p.m. on Monday, April 1. They were called to make a welfare check, but when they entered the home, they found a woman dead with “unknown” injuries.

Detectives were called to the scene due to the suspicious nature of the incident. They began their investigation by processing the scene and speaking to possible witnesses. Overnight, the medical examiner’s office notified the detectives that they found evidence she may have been murdered.

She was identified as 67-year-old Shelli Perrey.

Law enforcement was able to identify a person of interest, Joel Thomas. The 60-year-old man’s vehicle was found near KCI airport later in the day, and he was found dead from an apparent suicide. The two had been in an ongoing relationship.

The case was being investigated as a murder-suicide, KD stated.
