WESTWOOD, Kan. (KCTV) - A controversial plan to sell a small parcel of land in Westwood to become a mixed-use work space has been voted down in a special election in Johnson County.

According to unofficial results in Johnson County, a City of Westwood proposal that would’ve turned Joe D. Dennis Park into a mixed-use work space has failed.

The Johnson County Election Board’s unofficial results said the proposal got 394 ‘yes’ votes and 441 ‘no’ votes.

As a result, the small park will remain as is.

The vote follows an early March protest that argued the sale would harm Westwood’s character and cause safety concerns. Some residents who lived in the area but outside the Westwood voting area voiced their concerns prior to the vote they weren’t allowed to participate in.
