Platte County residents to vote on bond for funding school construction projects
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - With the April 8 election less than a week away, KCTV5 is highlighting the major bond issues that will appear on voter ballots in the Kansas City area.
Those in the Platte County R-III School District will see the following question:
Shall Platte County R-III School District issue its general obligation bonds in the amount of $62,000,000 for the purpose of acquiring, constructing, repairing, rebuilding, renovating, furnishing and equipping new and existing school sites and facilities, including:
- completing Phase 2 of rebuilding Platte County High School, creating a consolidated high school building with all classrooms and programs under one roof
- constructing site amenities at Platte Purchase Middle School activities complex
- constructing playground facilities at Pathfinder Elementary School
- making hard surface improvements at Com Elementary School to expand parking and improve traffic flow and safety?

If this question is approved, the District’s debt service property tax levy of $1.1789 per $100 of assessed valuation of real and personal property and the District’s overall tax levy is estimated to remain unchanged.
- YES
- NO

According to the school district, it will be a continuation of Phase 1 of the high school rebuild, which was completed in 2022. That project brought all dining into a single cafeteria, constructed the Pirate Fieldhouse and built a 26-classroom wing at the high school. The completion of the project at the high school would be scheduled for the second semester of 2027.
The bond issue would also address improvements for playgrounds at Pathfinder and Barry Elementeries, as well as a parking space expansion.
Platte Purchase Middle School underwent renovations to its track and field last summer. The funding would go toward a building, which would feature concessions, restrooms and additional storage.

The school district stated that in the last 10 years, the Platte County R-III enrollment has increased by more than 450 students (2024-25 enrollment is 4,349 K-12 students and 4,420 including PreK).
