Tornado leaves behind damage near Potosi

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - Several homes were damaged as storms moved through the area near Potosi on Wednesday afternoon.

A First Alert 4 viewer sent a video of what appeared to be a tornado on Highway 185 in the Potosi area.

Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop C said troopers responded to a confirmed tornado that touched down about six miles northwest of Potosi.

First Alert 4’s Caroline Hecker went to the area of Highway 185 just outside of Potosi and spoke to a neighbor who said that a tornado hit at least two homes. There were also reports of trees and power poles being down in the area.

The neighbor said that they were not aware of any injuries and that, as far as they knew, everyone had been ed for. There have been no reports of fatalities, but officials are monitoring the situation.

Highway 185 is closed about five miles outside of Potosi while emergency crews, including Ameren Missouri, are on the scene.

First responders gathered in Potosi on Wednesday after severe storms came through the area.

First responders from around the area have assembled in Potosi to survey the damage in the storm’s aftermath. They will be going door-to-door to talk with residents in the impacted areas.

An emergency shelter is being set up at Potosi Southern Baptist Church 10165 W Hwy 8 for anyone who may be effected by the tornado.
