WARRENSBURG, Mo. (KCTV) - A homeless man in Warrensburg has been charged with multiple child sex crimes after he allegedly forced himself on a child in his tent.

Johnson County, Missouri, Circuit Court records filed on Wednesday, April 2, indicate that Timothy Hopkins, 40, of Warrensburg, has been charged with multiple child sex crimes.

A probable cause statement filed by the Warrensburg Police Department revealed that on Feb. 26, law enforcement officials were alerted to a possible incident that involved a child. The victim, who was under the age of 14, reported they had been raped by Hopkins.

The victim told investigators that they had been walking toward a business when Hopkins, who is homeless, approached them and asked to “chill” in his tent behind the store. Once inside the tent, Hopkins forced the victim to have nonconsensual intercourse with him.

As a result, law enforcement officials said they learned the child had contracted two sexually transmitted diseases. When Hopkins was arrested on an unrelated matter, he itted to the crimes he committed against the child.

As a result, Hopkins has been charged with statutory rape and statutory sodomy. If convicted, he could spend up to life in prison.

A court appearance has been scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9. As of Friday, April 4, Hopkins remains behind bars on a $100,000 bond.
