Royals watch party brings game day excitement to Madison Senior Living
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - With the Royals back on local television, fans across the metro are celebrating – and at Madison Senior Living, baseball fever was in full swing.
More than 30 residents at the assisted living, independent living, and memory care facility gathered to cheer on the Royals as KCTV5 aired the first of 10 locally televised games scheduled this season.
The community transformed their common area into a mini Kauffman Stadium, complete with themed decorations, hot dogs, popcorn, and of course energy from devoted fans.
“I love the Royals,” Gayle Cook said.
Former southern Kansas cattle farmer Bob O’Brien, a self-proclaimed lifelong fan, echoed that ion.
“I’ve been a die-hard Royals fan for, I don’t know how long. A long time,” O’Brien said.
The excitement of watching together was a major draw.
“It’s a lot more fun when you have people around you watching it with you. You know, just more exciting,” said Thelma Barker.
Players like Salvador Perez, Vinnie Pasquantino and of course Bobby Witt Jr. were clear fan favorites during the 4-1 win over the Orioles.
“(Witt has) got three hits today, so he’s on a roll,” O’Brien said.
Bob Turley took his love for the team a step further by providing the decorations for the event, showcasing part of his impressive Royals memorabilia collection. And Turley was also quick to point out a fun stat after the game.
“The Royals are undefeated on KCTV5,” Turley said.
Sunday’s win puts the Royals just one game below .500 and builds anticipation for the next locally broadcast game.
