TOPEKA, Kan. (KCTV) - The leader of the Satanic Grotto, Michael Stewart, was charged with disorderly conduct and unlawful assembly following an incident at the Kansas State Capitol building on March 28.

The Kansas Highway Patrol told KCTV that Stewart and the Satanic Grotto were issued a permit to gather on the east side outside of the Capitol building from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Friday, March 28, 2025.

Stewart entered the building at 11:28 a.m. and was told by the Department of istration that he could enter but wasn’t permitted to perform any demonstrations. He then ed through security and walked to the first-floor rotunda and began his dedication to Satan.

An altercation between Stewart, 42, and 21-year-old Marcus Schroeder took place and both were taken into custody.

Schroeder was taken into custody for disorderly conduct.

Two others, 32-year-old Jocelyn Frazee and 50-year-old Sean Anderson entered the building with Stewart to demonstrate and were taken into custody for unlawful assembly, Kansas Highway Patrol officials told KCTV.

KHP officials said the cases will be submitted to the District Attorney’s Office for review.
