BALDWIN CITY, Kan. (KCTV) - An injured juvenile Red-tailed Hawk found in Baldwin City is on his way to recovery as rescuers continue to tube feed him and help him gain weight back.

The Lawrence, Kansas, Humane Society says that during the week of March 31, Animal Services Manager Tia Ezell responded to a call with reports of an injured hawk in Baldwin City.

Humane Society leaders noted that Ezell jumped into action and scooped up the juvenile Red-tailed Hawk and delivered him to partners at Operation Wildlife, a Linwood-based wildlife rescue.

Organization officials at Operation Wildlife updated the community on Tuesday, April 8, to let know that the hawk, Bonnie, is on his way to recovery.

Rescuers said Bonie had lost around 50% of his body weight and was severely emaciated at the time of his intake. He has since been tube fed and will continue to be until his organs “catch up” with his increase in caloric needs.

Operation Wildlife indicated that Bonnie is expected to be on solid foods by next week.
