KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A metro man is facing several felony charges after he allegedly helped shoplift tens of thousands of dollars worth of glasses.

According to documents filed with the Platte County Circuit Court, 52-year-old Glenn Martin is accused of felony stealing from the Sunglass Hut on Zona Rosa on three separate occasions.

The first incident on March 23, 2024, was reported to the Kansas City Police Department three days after it happened. A store manager went to the police station in person and said that around 2:30 p.m. on the day of the crime, three suspects walked into the store, grabbed armfuls of glasses off the walls and left. He gave investigators an itemized list of everything taken, including 104 pairs of glasses valued at $24,647 total.

The second incident on May 23, 2024, happened similarly to the first. Two days after the theft, a store manager told police at the station that three suspects had walked into the store around noon — this time with trash bags — and grabbed glasses from the displays. They allegedly put the glasses into the bags and left without paying for them. In total, 52 pairs of glasses were taken, valued at $19,954.

Police were dispatched to the third incident around 3:50 p.m. on March 15, 2025, after employees reported that a man entered the store alone and grabbed several pairs of glasses before running away. They said he took 15 pairs, valued at $4,587.60.

Court documents state that in all three reports, a man matching Martin’s description with identical tattoos was captured on surveillance video, and employees recognized him as the same person.

Martin was arrested on April 1, 2025, in Clay County on an unrelated stealing/larceny charge after he allegedly helped a woman steal a 58-inch television from a Walmart in Gladstone.

After learning of his arrest, Platte County detectives visited the jail to read him his Miranda Rights and question him about the Sunglass Hut incidents. Investigators noted Martin “appeared concerned and started to sweat,” but said he didn’t want to incriminate himself and was “wrong place, wrong time.” He said he didn’t know what happened to the glasses.

In addition to the thefts he is accused of committing at the Platte County Sunglass Hut and the Clay County Walmart, Martin has a third active case in Platte County from 2018 with two charges of misdemeanor stealing and a fourth in Jackson County.

There, he is accused of strongarmed robbery from a retail store in Kansas City in October 2023. Martin and another suspect allegedly stole $2,000 worth of clothing items and pushed a store manager to the ground as they left, causing her non-life-threatening injuries.

Booking reports show Martin is currently in Platte County custody. He has an bond review hearing for Platte County on April 22, 2025, and an initial appearance at the Gladstone Municipal Courtroom on May 7, 2025.
