ODESSA, Mo. (KCTV) - The Odessa Police Department was involved in a high-speed chase early Saturday that ended with one person in custody.

According to court documents, Triston Rainer is currently booked in the Lafayette County Detention Center on five felony charges. They stem from an incident on April 5, 2025, around 3:15 a.m., after an Odessa officer was called to the 200 block of East Main Street on reports of a car crash.

While the officer was on his way, dispatch notified him that the suspect was leaving the scene in his white Dodge Charger, and the person on the phone with 911 was following him.

As the officer approached, he reported seeing the white Dodge driving north on 2nd Street with heavy damage to the front and back, and the caller was still following.

All three vehicles entered eastbound 40 Highway. As they approached Johnson Drive, the officer turned on his emergency lights and sirens to initiate a stop. Rainer, driving the Dodge, allegedly sped up and ed through a stop sign at the intersection without stopping.

The officer began chasing Rainer and noted in court documents that they entered eastbound Interstate 70 and hit speeds of approximately 134 miles per hour near the 39.2-mile marker. They continued on I-70 for around 10 miles, topping out at an estimated 136 miles per hour, according to the officer.

Rainer reportedly exited the interstate at mile marker 49 and came to a stop in the middle of the off-ramp. He complied with the officer’s commands to exit the Dodge and was taken into custody without further incident.

Before the Dodge was towed, the officer conducted an inventory search and reported finding a loaded handgun on the driver’s side floorboard with its serial number pried off. He said he also found a plastic bag with 52 grams of a substance that he tested for methamphetamine presence, and it showed a positive result.

The officer added that Rainer had hundreds of dollars in cash on his person and in the Dodge at the time of his arrest, indicating possible narcotics distribution.

Upon returning to the scene of the crash that started the incident, it was noted that there were tire marks through a yard and leading up to a telephone pole that had been hit and “almost completely snapped in half.” The witness who called 911 said he watched Rainer drive off the road and hit the pole.

Records show Rainer is a convicted felon in Missouri and, therefore, not allowed to possess a firearm. His charges are as follows:

  • First-degree trafficking drugs or attempt
  • Aggravated fleeing a stop or detention
  • Leaving the scene of an accident- property damage exceeding $1,000
  • Unlawful use of a weapon
  • Unlawful possession of a firearm- dangerous felon/prior conviction

His next court date is scheduled for April 24, 2025.
