Unlit firecracker spurs investigation into possible threat at Kansas middle school
OTTAWA, Kan. (KCTV) - Investigators found an unlit firecracker, which is believed to have spurred a threat investigation at a Kansas middle school to close the week.
The Ottawa, Kansas, Police Department says that on Friday, April 11, emergency crews were called to Ottawa Middle School with reports of a possible threat. Officers partnered with school staff to investigate the claim.
Through the investigation, law enforcement officials said they found there was no credible threat to the school. However, an unlit firecracker, which prompted the initial reports, was found.
OPD indicated that it and USD 290 continue to take all reports of threats seriously to make sure school communities are safe. Community have been encouraged to report suspicious or dangerous behavior to 911.
