GRAIN VALLEY, Mo. (KCTV) - An onslaught of cybertips led law enforcement officials to file charges against a Grain Valley man after seven dozen files that depicted child sexual abuse were found.

Jackson County, Missouri, Circuit Court records filed on Friday, April 4, indicate that Matthew O. Mueller, 22, of Grain Valley, has been charged with several counts of possession of child pornography.

A probable cause statement filed by the Grain Valley Police Department revealed that around 2 p.m. on Nov. 20, 2024, information was received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that included 83 tips and a thumb drive. An IP address linked to the tips was allegedly last accessed in October by Mueller.

Investigators noted that when they looked at the thumb drive, they found scores of files that contained child sexual abuse material. A search warrant was then executed at the home linked to the IP address, Mueller’s home. During the search, several electronic devices were confiscated and taken to be analyzed.

Ultimately, law enforcement officials indicated they found dozens of CGI or animated photos and videos that contained child sexual abuse material that had been in Mueller’s possession. A total of 84 files of child pornography were identified on his electronic devices.

As a result, Mueller was arrested and charged with three counts of possession of child pornography. If convicted, he could spend around 45 years in prison. He did post bail on April 7 and no longer remains behind bars.

An initial arraignment is expected to be held at 11 a.m. on May 15. No further information has been released.
