Missouri woman at large after using Cash App to steal thousands of dollars

DAVIESS CO., Mo. (KCTV) - A Missouri woman remains at large after she allegedly used Cash App to steal thousands of dollars from a Daviess County victim.

Daviess County, Missouri, Circuit Court records filed on Monday, April 7, indicate that criminal charges have been filed against Sophie G. Matthews, 41, of Weatherby, after she allegedly used Cash App to steal thousands of dollars from a victim.

A probable cause statement filed by the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office revealed that between Dec. 2, 2024, and Jan. 1, 2025, Matthews allegedly used her Cash App card to make nearly 50 unauthorized withdrawals from the victim’s bank .

Investigators noted that a total of $4,110 had been lost as a result of the theft. They have not been able to make with Matthews since the investigation started and found that her children were left in the care of their father.

As a result, Matthews has been charged with stealing. If convicted, she could spend up to 7 years behind bars and be forced to pay a $10,000 fine. A warrant for her arrest was issued on Monday with the condition of a $5,000 bond.

A hearing has not yet been scheduled in the case. As of Saturday, April 12, Matthews remains at large. No further information has been released.
