22-year-old charged with animal abuse after puppy dies in his care

HARRISON CO., Mo. (KCTV) - A 22-year-old Missouri man faces a single charge of animal abuse after a 6-month-old puppy died while in his care.

Harrison County, Missouri, Circuit Court records filed on Saturday, April 5, indicate that Austin T. Johnston, 22, of New Hampton, has been charged with animal abuse after a puppy in his care died.

A criminal complaint filed by the County Attorney’s Office revealed that on Saturday, Johnston had been responsible for the care of a 6-month-old canine. He allegedly neglected the dog, which resulted in its death. He was arrested and charged as a result.

As of Saturday, April 12, he no longer remains behind bars as his $10,000 bond has been posted. A court appearance has been scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on May 7. No further information has been released.
