Fortune 500 company tours former Sprint Campus as possible hub
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (KCTV) - A Fortune 500 company is looking to open a Midwest regional operating hub, but the company behind the potential move remains a secret.
It’s being called Project Turtle, and the company in question has to do with financial technologies. A financial meeting with Overland Park leaders April 16 showed sweeping approval for the company to receive a 10-year rebate for taxes paid on a property they would hopefully call home. This would be 42,000 sq. ft. at the former Sprint Campus, now Aspiria.
The company has not chosen its future location yet, but a representative showed excitement over the potential to call Overland Park its new spot. If it moves forward, the company would bring 2,000 jobs to the area, averaging about $125,000 in yearly compensation. That would total $2.5 billion in payroll.
“I can’t say too much, obviously with these kinds of numbers it’s an extremely significant project,” Alex Leath, a lawyer representing the unnamed company, said. “I had a wonderful experience out here, eastern Kansas is beautiful and you’ve got some beautiful communities, Overland Park being one of them.”
