Giving Machines: Generous Kansas Citians make a big difference for area nonprofits
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Multiple charities walked out of Union Station with more money in the bank Thursday after receiving a payout from the Giving Machines KC.
Those are found around Union Station during the holidays for visitors to donate to their charity of choice. Last year, nine charities, including Amythest Place, were on the list to choose from.
Over $265,000 was divided up between them. Amythest Place walked away with almost $44,000 towards their mission to house local families in need.
“It’s amazing timing because we just opened a new campus of 32 more apartments so we almost doubled in size, gonna serve over 300 women and children annually now and so the money is really going to help us furnish these apartments, really turn them into a home,” Sarah Knopf-Amblung, the Director of Strategy and Growth said.
All the charities in attendance help people across the country and locally. The checks were presented to each individual charity by Tammy Reid, the wife of Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid. The family has been a big er of the Giving Machine KC, as Tammy shared stories about bringing the grandkids to donate.
The funds were collected from over 3,400 individual donations during the holidays. The machines and any fees associated with using them are covered by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which means every cent put in goes straight to those checks.
