Arrest made after man threatens dollar store employee over $20 in stolen goods

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The man who confessed to threatening a Dollar General employee over $20 worth of merchandise could spend the rest of his life behind bars.

Jackson County, Missouri, Circuit Court records filed on Saturday, April 12, indicate that Samuel D. Craig, 27, of Kansas City, has been charged after he allegedly threatened a Dollar General employee with a knife.

A probable cause statement filed by the Kansas City Police Department revealed that around 7:20 p.m. on Friday, law enforcement officials were called to a local Dollar General with reports of a disturbance. When they arrived, they found an employee who reported Craig stole $20 in merchandise and threatened her with a knife.

Investigators said they were then called to the Country Club Plaza with reports of another disturbance. This time, they found Craig waving a knife at ersby from his scooter. He was detained and taken to a nearby hospital for a medical evaluation. After he was released, he was booked into the Jackson County Detention Center.

Law enforcement officials said Craig itted to the crimes during an interview with them. As a result, he has been charged with robbery and armed criminal action. If convicted, he could spend up to life in prison.

A court appearance has been scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on April 30. As of Friday, April 18, Craig remains behind bars on a $30,000 bond. No further information has been released.
