Charges filed against man who broke into victim’s room ahead of knife attack

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A Kansas City man remains behind bars after he allegedly broke into his victim’s room before he attacked him with a knife and sent him to an area hospital.

Jackson County, Missouri, Circuit Court records filed on Friday, April 11, indicate that Jerome Dunn, 59, of Kansas City, has been charged in connection with the knife attack.

A probable cause statement filed by the Kansas City Police Department revealed that on Friday, law enforcement officials were called with reports of a disturbance. When they arrived at the scene, they found a victim who reported his hand had been cut when Dunn broke into his room armed with a knife.

Investigators indicated that Dunn allegedly used a butcher knife to break the lock on the victim’s door. A short struggle ensued after a confrontation, during which the victim had been injured. Pools of blood were found all over the scene.

Law enforcement officials said the victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he required surgery due to the severity of his injuries. Meanwhile, Dunn was taken into custody without incident. He refused to speak with investigators.

As a result, Dunn has been charged with assault in the first degree and armed criminal action. A bond review hearing has been scheduled for 10 a.m. on Monday, April 21, with a preliminary hearing expected at 2 p.m. on May 14.

As of Friday, April 18, Dunn remains behind bars on a $90,000 bond. If convicted, he could be sentenced to life in prison. No further information has been released.
