Man faces over two decades behind bars after 2024 fatal shooting

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A Kansas City man who plead guilty to second-degree murder was sentenced to 22 years in prison.

On June 17, 2024, officers were called to the 3200 Block of E. Linwood Blvd., where they found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

The woman, 29-year-old Taylor Thomas, died a few days later in a hospital due to her injuries.

Harris plead guilty to a second-degree murder charge in March.

Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson announced Friday that a judge sentenced Harris to 22 years in prison.

“Domestic violence far too often escalates and ends in tragedy, as we saw in this case,” said Prosecutor Johnson. “We remain committed to pursuing justice for victims and intervening earlier during cycles of violence to prevent homicides before they happen.”
