KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - An important step in the KC Streetcar Riverfront extension project was announced Tuesday.

April 22, the KC Streetcar Riverfront Extension team celebrated the laying of all tracks.

The project broke ground April 2022, starting at 3rd Street and Grand Boulevard, ending midway through the Berkeley Riverfront.

The grand opening for riders is expected sometime around February 2026.

Streetcar updates: Riverfront Extension nears track completion, Main Street under testing

On the other side of the track, the Main Street Extension was completed in November 2024, extending that line 3.5 miles south on Main Street with 16 new stops. The end of the line is The University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) at 51st Street and Brookside. The Main Street Extension is expected to finish testing and open to the public in the fall of 2025.

UMKC students on the Main Street line and KC Current fans in the Berkeley Riverfront are two groups that have shown special interest in the extended transit options.
