WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - The 4-H Club in Udall is getting ready to mark 70 years since a tornado struck the town in 1955.

On May 25, 1955, approximately 80 people were killed when the F5 tornado hit Udall. It’s the deadliest tornado in Kansas history.

The 4-H group is honoring the victims by painting benches around town. They say it’s part of acknowledging just how much was lost when the tornado hit 70 years ago.

One 4-H member said the ways the group gives back goes beyond just painting benches.

“It could be painting it could be just giving back. We do so much more in our community that you don’t really see because you have to be in that community, you have to really live here to know,” Andrew Preston said. “But we do things such as our blessing box, giving back food to people that need it.”

Udall 4-H is also marking the anniversary with an event at its community building.
