Northland shooting kills male who ‘appears to be a teen’, no suspect in custody
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A shooting Wednesday afternoon has claimed someone’s life, police reported.
The Kansas City Police Department stated that officers have responded to the 7800 block of NE 75th Court in reference to the fatal shooting.
At the scene, officers located a male shooting victim in the front yard of a home. KD said the victim was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and was declared dead a short time later.
Preliminary information indicated the victim had an encounter with “one or more suspects,” KD said. That interaction led to shots being fired and the victim being struck.
KD said the victim appeared to be a teen but said an identification has yet to confirm whether he is a juvenile or an adult.
No suspects are in custody at this time, police said.
Ben Brady lives several houses away from where the victim was shot. He says he was working from home when he heard a gunshot.
“Naturally, I peeked through the window,” said Brady. “A little time had ed, but I saw two young men running across the street.”
Brady says he went outside to see what happened and was shocked when he saw his neighbors performing R on the victim before first responders got there.
“I’m proud of them,” said Brady. “I heard that one of the people performing R was 18 years old. My heart goes out to them, having to see something like that and doing their best to resuscitate, help someone.”
Those who live in the area describe the neighborhood as quiet, safe, and friendly. Brady says it’s heartbreaking what happened. He and his neighbors agree they don’t feel less safe but will be more aware.
“You can see the community coming together, huddled together, just talking about what’s going on,” said Brady. “You can feel the close-knit community around you and everyone wants a safe neighborhood.”
