KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Neighbors are still trying to come to with what happened after a teenager was shot and killed in a Northland neighborhood in broad daylight.

According to the Kansas City Police Department, a teenager was found shot in the yard of a home on Tuesday. The shooting happened in the 7800 block of NE 75th Court. The teen was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

“I mean we’re still trying to come to grasp the reality of what happened,” said Jeremy Greenfield.

Greenfield was working from home when he heard a gunshot.

“I heard what sounded like fireworks going off. I looked out the window and saw two teens running up the street, and I saw one of the teens double back at my neighbor’s house, and that’s where I saw the victim lying, he was trying to pull him away,” Greenfield said.

Greenfield’s home security camera caught the interaction, showing a young man in a white hoodie over the victim lying in his neighbor’s yard.

“I think it was probably someone who regretted what they did, trying to do something,” Greenfield said. “He knew the kid was hurt, and he was trying to save him. When he saw me coming out of the house, he said to get him help and then ran off.”

Greenfield said his daughter and other neighbors performed R on the victim until EMS showed up.

“All the ladies stayed very calm, and they were trying to help the young man,” Greenfield said. “I don’t know how to explain it, all adrenaline.”

Another neighbor gave KCTV5 a video that showed dozens of officers at a house one street over from Greenfield’s.

In the video, officers are heard yelling, “Police department, come outside, we have a search warrant, everyone outside.”

According to the timestamp on the video, that happened at 12:15 a.m., hours after the shooting. But neighbors said they saw the two teenagers running in the home’s direction after the shooting.

KD couldn’t confirm the two are related but said detectives are continuing to investigate the shooting.

“I don’t think I feel unsafe but surely am more careful,” Greenfield said.

Greenfield hopes for justice for the teen they tried to save.

“There are kids who have access to firearms that they shouldn’t, that’s just the reality we live in nowadays,” Greenfield said.
