KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Crews complete the KC Streetcar Riverfront Extension and that means a bridge reopened to drivers ahead of schedule.

The Grand Boulevard/Berkley Parkway Bridge is now open, making it easier to get to and from downtown from the riverfront.

Construction crews closed the bridge and surrounding area from 3rd Street to Front Street in late February. During the closure, crews added tracks, installed drainage lines, and added a new platform at 3rd Street and Grand Boulevard.

“With continuous track now in the ground stretching from the Riverfront to UMKC at 51st and Brookside, we are not just expanding a streetcar line, we are building the spine of our regional transit system,” Tom Gerend, Executive Director of the KC Streetcar Authority, said.

When complete, the entire KC Streetcar system will increase to nearly 6.5 miles and run from the river to the University of Kansas City-Missouri. Construction will continue this year. Service is expected to begin running to UMKC in early 2026.
