Teenager identified as victim killed in Northland neighborhood shooting

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Police identified a Kansas City teenager shot in a Northland neighborhood Wednesday afternoon.

Investigators said they found the body of 17-year-old Charles Sanders in the front yard of a home near NE 75th Court and North Chas Drive.

Emergency responders transported Sanders to a hospital where he later died of his injuries.

Detectives said preliminary information indicated the victim had an encounter with “one or more suspects.” The department went on to say the interaction led to shots being fired and the victim being struck.

A security camera in the neighborhood caught the interaction and showed a man in a white hoodie standing over Sanders in a yard.

Neighbors living nearby said they rushed to help Sanders. One person who lived in the neighborhood performed R on Sanders before police arrived. Other neighbors said they saw two teenagers running from the home following the shooting.

Police have not yet made an arrest in the case.

Liberty High School Principal Dr. Mike Sharp released the following statement, confirming that Sanders had previously attended the school and offering for students and staff.
