KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - An investigation into a double homicide has opened after the two victims were found to have been shot inside a car along a Kansas City street. On Sunday, they were identified as two teenagers.

The Kansas City Police Department says that just before 12:45 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, emergency crews were called to the area of 12th and Belmont St. with reports of a shooting.

When first responders arrived, they said they were directed toward a vehicle, inside which they found two males who were unresponsive and suffering from gunshot wounds. EMS declared both victims deceased at the scene.

They were later identified as 19-year-old Matthew Suri and 16-year-old Maximiliano Ruiz.

Investigators indicated that the victims were believed to be inside the vehicle when one or more suspects approached and shots were fired. A person of interest has been taken into custody, however, it remains unknown exactly how they were involved at this time.

Detectives said they will continue to investigate the scene and canvass for witnesses.

Anyone with information about the incident should report it to the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS. A reward of up to $25,000 has been offered for information that leads to a conviction.

As of 2:30 p.m., law enforcement officials said 12th St. has been closed in both directions. No further information has been released.
