KC woman charged after officer feared she may bite chunk of his arm out
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A Kansas City woman could spend more than a decade behind bars after she allegedly bit a police officer who tried to stop her from tampering with his car.
Clay County, Missouri, Circuit Court records filed on Wednesday, April 23, indicate that Shanetta Bossell, 38, of Kansas City, has been charged in connection with the incident.
A probable cause statement filed by the Kansas City Police Department revealed that around 6:45 a.m. on Wednesday, law enforcement officials were called to the area of NE 107th Terr. and NE Shoal Creek Pkwy. with reports of an officer in need of assistance.
When first responders arrived, they said they found a Platte City Police Department officer detaining Bossell. The officer, who had allegedly been bitten by Bossell several times, required medical attention. Bossell was eventually taken into custody.
The Platte City officer told KD that he saw Bossell attempting to enter his personal vehicle, as well as others nearby. As he was still in his uniform, he confronted Bossell and inquired what she was doing. However, she ignored him and started to walk to his front door. She was told to stop and show her hands, which she also ignored.
When the officer grabbed Bossell, he said she began to resist as he took her to the ground and attempted to detain her. During the incident, she grabbed his handcuffs and tried several times to grab his department-issued knife. As he reached for his radio, she bit his left arm so hard he feared a chunk of it would be bitten off.
As a result, Bossell was booked into the Clay County Detention Center and charged with assault in the second degree and resisting arrest. If convicted, she could spend up to 11 years behind bars and be forced to pay a $20,000 fine.
As of Saturday, April 26, Bossell does not appear to be behind bars as her $10,000 bond has been posted.
A bond reduction hearing has been set for 9 a.m. on Tuesday, April 29, with a preliminary hearing expected at 9 a.m. on June 6. No further information has been released.
