Independence police investigating what led up to shooting of 14-year-old boy

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (KCTV) - The Independence Police Department says one person is in custody after shooting a teen over the weekend.

Officers were dispatched to the 3400 block of S. Leslie Avenue around 3:20 p.m. on April 26 on reports of a shooting.

Upon arrival, they found that an 18-year-old had allegedly shot a 14-year-old male. The suspect was arrested, and the victim was taken to an area hospital where he is reportedly in stable condition.

The relationship between the two involved and the circumstances leading up to the shooting are unclear, but IPD said the case remains under investigation.
