Charges filed following fatal shooting at Kansas City liquor store
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Charges have been filed against a man following a fatal shooting at a Kansas City liquor store Monday evening.
The Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office announced charges of second-degree murder, first-degree attempted robbery and armed criminal action against Jeremiah Williamson. The charges against Williamson follow a shooting at the Liquor X-Press Store in the area of 9th and Prospect.
Police received a call just before 6 p.m. on Monday, April 28, for a shooting in the area and responded within a minute. KD officers located a man suffering from gunshot trauma outside the entrance of the store. The man who died was identified Tuesday as 18-year-old Donovan Booker.
While interviewing witnesses, Williamson allegedly told police he shot the victim while defending himself, then called 911.

Surveillance footage from the scene and witness statements helped detectives determine Williamson and the victim engaged in a physical struggle for a gun near the store’s entrance. Eventually, court documents alleged that struggle led to Williamson shooting the victim, who initially grabbed his gun.
“Sometimes, the choices we make and the company we keep can have devastating and lifelong consequences. Under Missouri law, when someone is killed during the perpetration of a felony, attempted felony or flight of a felony, any of the participants can be held able for felony murder. If convicted, the defendant could face 10 to 30 years in prison,” said Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson. “I am proud of the swift work led by the Kansas City Police Department and our prosecution team. We’ll continue to work together to hold those who endanger our community able.”
Johnson said Williamson is being held on a $100,000 cash bond in the Jackson County Detention Center.
