Fort Jackson soldier found dead during training, Army confirms
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS/Gray News) - A soldier in South Carolina was found dead while in training over the weekend, according to military officials.
The unnamed soldier was stationed at Fort Jackson in Columbia.
In a Facebook post Sunday, Fort Jackson announced that a basic combat training soldier from Charlie Company, 2nd Battalion, 13th Infantry Regiment, was found dead during training on Thursday.
“Losing a teammate affects us all,” Fort Jackson Commander, Maj. Gen. Daryl O. Hood said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with their family as well as the cadre and fellow trainees.”
Fort Jackson said the unit is standing down from training for 48 hours and resources are being provided to the soldier’s family and of their unit as they grieve and process the loss.
Due to U.S. Army regulation, the name of the soldier is being withheld until all of the next of kin have been notified.
