Wrong-way crash on Interstate 70 leaves 1 man dead, another with serious injuries
SWEET SPRINGS, Mo. (KCTV) - A man heading toward Kansas City was killed Tuesday evening after crossing an Interstate 70 median.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol was on the scene of the crash around 9 p.m. on April 29. A report states that a 72-year-old Florissant, Missouri, man was driving west on I-70 when he crossed the median near mile-marker 64.8 and started driving the wrong direction.
The man came to a stop on the interstate, then was hit head-on by a 59-year-old St. Louis man.
MSHP said the St. Louis man was wearing a seatbelt but suffered serious injuries. He was air-lifted to a hospital in Independence for treatment. The Florrisant driver was not wearing a seatbelt and suffered fatal injuries. His next of kin has been notified.
Both cars were totaled in the accident.
