Man allegedly behind Oak Grove attack was supposed to be on house arrest
OAK GROVE, Mo. (KCTV) - A man who was supposed to be on house arrest during the brutal attack of a man in Oak Grove is now behind bars and faces new charges.
Jackson County, Missouri, Circuit Court records filed on Sunday, April 27, indicate that Darrell J. Cox, 44, of Oak Grove, has been charged in connection with the brutal attack of a man in an Oak Grove home.
A probable cause statement filed by the Oak Grove Police Department revealed that around 9:15 p.m. on Sunday, law enforcement officials were called to a nearby home with reports of a disturbance. While on the way, another 911 call was received with information that the suspect, Cox, was on the move.
When first responders arrived, they said they found a victim who reported Cox, who was supposed to be on house arrest, had attacked another victim inside the home and they required stitches.
Investigators noted that the front door jam to the home was splintered and debris from the door spread several feet, indicating it was kicked open. A trail of blood, which was identified as the second victim’s, led up another flight of stairs and into a master bathroom.
Law enforcement officials indicated that the second victim had been pistol-whipped about 15 times. He was taken to Centerpoint Medical Center for treatment of what were deemed to be serious injuries.
Investigators noted that at the time of the attack, it was found that Cox had been ordered to house arrest due to a felony domestic violence conviction.
Oak Grove Police said Cox was found a few days later and taken into custody. He was charged with burglary, assault, armed criminal action and violation of an order of protection. As of Friday, May 2, he remains behind bars on a $100,000 bond.
If convicted, Cox could be sentenced to up to 48 years in prison and be forced to pay a $30,000 fine. A bond review hearing has been scheduled for 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6, with a preliminary hearing expected at 2 p.m. on May 29.
