Charges filed against convicted felon after armed carjacking in Blue Summit

BLUE SUMMIT, Mo. (KCTV) - A Kansas man believed to be behind an armed carjacking in Blue Summit faces multiple charges after he itted he was a convicted felon.

Jackson County, Missouri, Circuit Court records filed on Sunday, April 27, indicate that Wayne W. Hunt, 32, of Leavenworth, Kansas, has been charged in connection with an armed carjacking in Blue Summit.

A probable cause statement filed by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office revealed that around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, law enforcement officials were called to an area of Ashland Ave. north of E. 21st St. with reports of a shooting. The caller reported a car had been stolen at gunpoint.

When first responders arrived, they said they found a victim who reported two suspects in a black 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe had arrived at his house as he worked on a customer’s black 2003 Chevrolet Silverado. The pair asked for “Taylor” and were both armed as one entered the customer’s car and the other left in the Tahoe.

A short time later, investigators said they were notified that the car was spotted near 29th and Oakley Ave. as of the Kansas City Police Department chased the driver, later identified as Hunt, on foot. He was quickly taken into custody.

During an interview with law enforcement officials, they said Hunt claimed he had been driving in the area in his Tahoe when an unknown man with a firearm jumped in and demanded that he follow him. He said that as they were driving, the unknown man fired multiple shots.

Investigators noted that Hunt itted he was a convicted felon even though a magazine and ammunition were found in his possession. As a result, Hunt has been charged with robbery in the first degree, armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a firearm.

If convicted, Hunt could be sentenced to spend life in prison. As of Saturday, May 3, he remains behind bars on a $100,000 bond. A bond review hearing has been scheduled for 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6, with a preliminary hearing expected at 2 p.m. on May 29. No further information has been released.
