Missouri Supreme Court decision on minimum wage, paid sick leave vote celebrated at rally
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The Missouri Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld a voter-approved ballot measure raising the state’s minimum wage to $15 an hour and requiring employers to provide paid sick leave to workers.
On Saturday morning, dozens of people rallied at UAW Local 249 to celebrate the state supreme court judgment and the implementation of Proposition A.
Shortly after the election, three ed voters and six other entities filed a lawsuit alleging the Proposition A results violated the state constitution.

But in a court filing released on Tuesday afternoon, the court ruled challenges to Proposition A were invalid.
The decision, written by Chief Justice Mary R. Russell and five other judges, cited that Proposition A’s summary was “not misleading or inaccurate so as to constitute an irregularity casting doubt on the election.” The decision added that the Supreme Court lacks jurisdiction over whether the proposition violated the constitution, does it have jurisdiction over challenges after the election was already held.
The Missouri Supreme Court ruling means paid sick leave will be mandatory in the state, starting Thursday.
