Second lawsuit filed after deadly Lexington house explosion
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A month after a fiery gas explosion in Lexington, Mo., a second family sues four companies involved in the project.
Shayne and Alicia Billings allege Liberty Utilities, United Fiber, Sellenriek Construction, and Alfra Communication were wrongful and negligent leading up to the explosion.
The Billings lived on the same block as Jacob Cunningham and his children. Cunningham and his daughter suffered critical injuries when their house exploded April 9. Cunningham’s son, Alistair, 5, died in the explosion. The lawsuit shows the Billings were also injured.
The explosion leveled Cunningham’s house. It significantly damaged the house where the Billings lived, according to the lawsuit.
The lawsuit alleges the gas lines in the neighborhood were not marked correctly. It also accuses the companies of not evacuating the area when Liberty Utilities could not stop the gas leak.
Documents show the gas leaked into the neighborhood for hours leading up to the fiery explosion.
The lawsuit demands a jury trial and seeks more than $25,000 for each plaintiff. The full lawsuit can be viewed below.

Jacob Cunningham and his daughter filed a personal injury and wrongful death lawsuit against the same four companies last month.
That lawsuit asks for a fair and reasonable sum of money to compensate Cunningham for his injuries and for the pain and suffering Alistair experienced at the time of his death.
