Man arrested after providing fentanyl to 16-year-old and leaving her on a trail to overdose, police say
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU/Gray News) - A man in Alaska was arrested Wednesday after a teenager who had overdosed on fentanyl was found dead on a powerline trail in November.
The Alaska State Troopers said 45-year-old Sean Mobley has been charged with second-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance in relation to the death of 16-year-old Alena Toennis.
According to an AST dispatch, the Alaska Bureau of Investigation determined that “Mobley provided fentanyl to Toennis before he abandoned her on a Wasilla trail as she was experiencing an overdose.”
Toennis had died as a result of an overdose from the fentanyl provided to her by Mobley, according to officials.
Mobley was taken to Mat-Su Pretrial facility.
Troopers said they were alerted to the discovery of Toennis’ body around 7:20 a.m. on Nov. 15. Her body was properly identified three days later.
The teen’s aunt, Crystal Drake Toennis, posted on social media, saying the girl’s body was found behind a business in the area of Seldon and Bogard Roads.
A spokesperson for the Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District confirmed that the 16-year-old was a former student of the district before dropping out the year before.
Alena Toennis’ family said the last school she was enrolled in was Mat-Su Central School.
