Kansas City University kicks off graduation season in the metro
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Graduation season kicked off in Kansas City this weekend as Kansas City University (KCU) held one of the first ceremonies on Friday, May 9, at the HyVee Arena.
Four hundred students walked across the stage, officially becoming doctors, psychologists, and scientists.
“As a veteran and a single mom, it means a lot that I was able to accomplish this [doctorate in psychology]. I feel like it’s inspiring! I tell everyone that anything is possible,” said graduate Dr. Tejay Fuller.
Kansas City University reports an urgent shortage of primary care doctors, emergency medicine physicians, OBGYN’s and mental health practitioners.
Half of KCU’s graduates of the College of Osteopathic Medicine are going into primary care. Others are placed into programs such as ophthalmology, dermatology, orthopedic surgery, and urology.
KCU is the number one producer of physicians in the state of Missouri and the leading producer of physicians who practice in critical health shortage areas. The university is the 2nd producer of physicians for Kansas.
