KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) - The Kansas City, Kansas, Fire Department spent early Monday morning at an Olive Garden after a fire started in the back kitchen.

At 7:18 a.m. on May 12, a firefighter on his way to work heard an alarm coming from the restaurant and called for help. Within three minutes, KCKFD crews arrived and saw smoke coming from the roof.

Firefighters forced their way into the building and found a large gas cooktop in the back kitchen on fire. It was quickly extinguished, but the smoke had spread throughout the building and needed to be ventilated. The fire did not spread beyond the cooktop, but the appliance was significantly damaged.

KCKFD said no employees were in the building when the fire broke out, and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
