Former Kansas Governor Jeff Colyer announces he will run again in 2026
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) - A former top politician in the Sunflower State stated on Wednesday that he will once again run for Kansas’ highest office.
Jeff Colyer, who served as Kansas’ 47th governor after former Governor Sam Brownback resigned in January 2018, announced that he will seek the Republican nomination for governor of Kansas in 2026.
Colyer, who also served as a state senator, lieutenant governor and Congressman, ran for governor in 2018 but lost the Republican nomination to Kris Kobach. He ran again in 2022 but withdrew after he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
A craniofacial surgeon, Colyer went back into medicine following his recovery from cancer, doing volunteer work in war zones across the world, his campaign stated.
Current Gov. Laura Kelly will end her second term in January 2027.
