Mayor Lucas will head to Qatar for economic forum, touring 2022 World Cup operations
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The World Cup is nearly one year away, and Kansas City’s mayor is headed to the most recent host country for insight on its operation.
Mayor Quinton Lucas announced on Wednesday afternoon that he will also attend an economic forum in Doha.
The mayor’s office stated that he will spend his time in West Asia discussing global economic markets and present Kansas City and Missouri investment opportunities at the Qatar Investment Authority.
Lucas will also tour 2022 World Cup facilities in Qatar and Aspire Zone to exchange ideas on security, transportation, fan experiences and legacy projects, his office stated.
He will be accompanied by four other U.S. mayors and Jeff Lodermeier, a U.S. State Department local diplomat assigned to Kansas City.
The mayor also plans to meet with the Qatari Ambassador to the United States and U.S. Ambassador Timmy Davis, and visit Missouri and Kansas military personnel at Al Udeid Air Base.
Lucas’ office stated that he will participate in discussions at the Qatar Foundation connecting KC’s women’s sports initiatives with Qatar Olympic Committee efforts.
The trip will span from May 19 to May 21.
There will be no cost to Kansas City taxpayers for the Mayor or Mr. Lodermeier’s travel, Lucas’ office added.
