KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The Kansas City Police Department is investigating whether intoxication was a factor in a serious crash late Tuesday night.

According to KD, officers were called to westbound 152 Highway at N Hampton around 10:20 p.m. on May 14.

An investigation indicated that the driver of a white Mercedes, David Baxter, was speeding when he went off the left side of the road. KD said he tried to get back on the road but overcorrected and crossed over both lanes of the highway before “tumbling away” into the treeline.

Baxter had minor injuries, but his enger, Stephen Rutledge, was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

The crash remains under investigation, and DUI is suspected but not confirmed.
